Cisco Equipment Featured on CBS’ NCIS Show

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

In November 2010, the hit CBS show NCIS showcased Cisco equipment in a teleconferencing scene between agents. The show featured real, available technology and agents all over the U.S. used mobile devices as well as computers to connect during an important conference on a long standing case.

What’s interesting is that much of what you see in terms of technology on television shows and in movies, is made up by writers, but based on available technology.  In this case, the technology actually exists.

Businesses not related to crime fighting or even television producing can also benefit from this technology. Cisco offers a wide range of wireless technology products as well as high-end routers, switches, security, and telephony options for small and large businesses to streamline communications.

At MLCP, we offer these products both new and used, and always covered under our standard one-year warranty, making them available to customers at various price points. Switches, like the Cisco ME-3400G-12CS-A are available at a fraction of the price you’d find them elsewhere.

But if you’re not sure exactly what your business could benefit from, you’re not alone. Call us and speak to a representative who can discuss your needs, your plan for growth, and your budget and offer some assistance in the types of Cisco components that will take your business to the next level without breaking the bank.

Cisco Ends Production on the ISR G1 Portfolio

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

Cisco announced earlier this month that they will no longer be manufacturing the Original Integrated Services Router (ISR G1) portfolio.  The Cisco ISR 1841, 28xx, and 38xx are included in this announcement. The last date to purchase these products from Cisco is November 1, 2011.

This is where alternative Cisco suppliers like MULTI-LINK Communications Products comes in. MLCP, knowing that these models will soon be difficult to find, is currently stocking up on new and pre-owned Cisco ISRs affected by this announcement so that they can continue to serve customers who are not ready to upgrade to the ISR G2 series. Cisco is quick to point out that the new G2 series delivers a new borderless workspace experience.  But the G1 portfolio remains a highly reliable, high performance set of integrated services routers that provide sufficient power for many customers.

It is for this reason, among others, that alternative Cisco providers are important. Not only can companies like MLCP provide better deals than the manufacturer’s distribution chain because they get discounted quantities of new surplus as well as refurbished equipment, they also can locate hard to find (often obsolete) components that the manufacturer hopes you won’t buy because they want you to spend the money upgrading.

To learn more about this series of routers, or other pre-owned and new surplus Cisco networking hardware components, check out MLCP’s extensive stock.

Cisco and Best Buy Making Magic Happen this Holiday Season

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

Tech industry leader Cisco Systems is working closely with Best Buy in the next two months to bring the new, unparalleled Cisco ūmi to Magnolia Home Theatre stores by Christmas. Visit a Magnolia Home Theatre store and experience Cisco ūmi.  Best Buy reps will be able to give you expert advice on this exciting new product and help you decide if you have the required broadband. Once you purchase Cisco ūmi, installation and support will be provided by The Geek Squad. Sounds like a marriage made in heaven, doesn’t it?

So what is this Cisco umi anyway?

According to Cisco, it’s “a first-of-its-kind consumer product that brings family and friends together in HD video, whether they are around the corner or across the country. Cisco ūmi connects to an existing HD television and a broadband internet connection to create a video communications experience that is so clear, natural and lifelike, that users will see and hear their loved ones, right down to the twinkle in their eyes and the tone of their voices, as if they were in the same room.”

How does it work?

The inclusion of an HD camera, a console and a remote, according to Cisco, “takes advantage of Cisco’s heritage in business telepresence, to deliver an immersive video experience that fits into every home, automatically adjusting to lighting conditions and various room sizes to provide superior video and audio performance.” Wow. What will they think of next?

Perfect for the holidays when miles often separate loved ones, and for families who have armed forces members stationed overseas, this product takes “almost as good as being there” to the next level.  But what about people who don’t have umi? One of the issues with videoconferencing technologies is that both parties must have the necessary hardware to make it work.

“Users can also record their own ūmi videos, which they can share on Facebook, on YouTube, or via email. Users can even keep in touch with people who don’t have ūmi by placing and receiving video calls from any computer with a webcam and Google video chat.” Okay. So maybe they really have considered everything.

Cisco is known in the technology hardware industry for its high performance routers, switches, security, and IP telephony products. MULTI-LINK Communications Products is an alternative source for new and used Cisco equipment.

Friday, October 29th, 2010

“For example,” Tanaka says, “we’ve been operating a blog with educational information about network security, how hardware components work, and  the future of computer networking hardware. A lot of people, unless they come to our site, don’t know this educational information is there and it’s free!”

MLCP Now Providing Siemens’ Innovative OpenScape UC Server

Sunday, September 26th, 2010

MULTI-LINK Communications Products (MLCP) has, for years now, been an industry leader in providing used and new Cisco networking hardware to customers all over the globe. With more than 200,000 new and refurbished hardware components from companies like Cisco, Foundry, and Juniper in stock, it was only a matter of time before the company expanded their offerings to include innovative networking technology from another well-known player in the tech field: Siemens Enterprise Communications. And not surprisingly, that product is the award winning OpenScape UC Server 2010.

Boasting the title “Best of VoiceCon,” the OpenScape UC Server 2010 revolutionizes communication design by enhancing a company’s existing IT or telephony network and removing the artificial legacy barriers between separate video, voice, and unified communications systems. Because it works with a company’s existing network and hardware, including those that have already invested in web conferencing solutions like Microsoft’s Live Meeting, Cisco’s WebEx, and IBM’s Lotus Sametime, OpenScape UC 2010 maximizes investment protection, enhancing what’s already there. With the ability to reliably support an impressive suite of UC applications like IP least cost routing, video conferencing, role-based UC applications, and more, the OpenScape UC Server 2010 inclues enterprise grade voice with carrier grade scalability. This innovative 2010 release even includes Seimens Enterprise Communications’ OpenScape Fusion Social Media for Twitter, making it one of the most cutting edge packaged integration products on the market.

“This is an exciting product that truly revolutionizes unified business communication,” says Eric Tanaka, President of MLCP. “I was blown away when I saw the wide range of deployment architectural choices and the ease of deployment. The great thing about it is that you’re not unplugging and replacing what you already have. OpenScape works in conjunction with your existing hardware whether it be from Cisco or Juniper or whomever and increases the functionality. We all know that unifying communications is a major step in encouraging collaboration, improving enterprise agility and increasing overall productivity. The OpenScape UC Server 2010 does all of those things and does them very well.”

The OpenScape UC Server is designed for large organizations of 1000 users or more and is available in three versions, each tailored to different organizational needs. There is a comprehensive range of licensing and acquisition options available including “pay-as-you-go” subscription licensing. For organizations with less 1000 users, MLCP offers other alternatives in unified communications and has experience in helping small companies grow by providing the right networking solutions. “This OpenScape Server is ideal for many of our customers who have upwards of 100,000 users utilizing their networks. But most of our customers aren’t at that level yet and they need our help to grow and expand as their organizations do. Often, the smaller companies’ needs change faster than those of the larger companies and we have a wide array of products for them as well,” explains Tanaka. “We are big believers in what OpenScape can do as a platform and very enthusiastic about offering it.”

Since 1995, MULTI-LINK Communications has been a reliable supplier of network hardware and equipment from Cisco and other companies like Juniper, Foundry, and many more. The company buys used equipment for generous trade-in credit or cash, and sells both new and refurbished equipment at discount prices. Whether you need to replace a simple network cable, or upgrade to an entirely new network with higher-performing Cisco routers, start and end your search with MLCP.

Cisco and Skype: What Does it Mean for You?

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

What happens when the a networking and computer hardware company giant like Cisco teams up with an Internet communications company like Skype?  It could mean a very bright future in the world of technology.  TechCrunch, a blog that reports on technology stated last month that Cisco put in an offer to acquire Skype. This all comes before Skype, which is known for its Internet telephony that allows people to connect and speak on the phone through their web-based computers and other devices all over the world, can make an Initial Public Offering.

Skype, which was created in 2003 and is based in Luxembourg, announced plans to list on the NASDAQ early in August. Cisco’s offer came a few weeks later.

So if Cisco succeeds and acquiring Skype and Skype’s telephony technologies, what will happen?

Cisco currently offers a wide range of Internet telephony options, delivering benefits of converged networks while continuing to provide scalable, reliable, and secure communications that take advantage of WAN and LAN.  With IP telephony lines like the Cisco Analog Telephone Adaptor (ATA) products which are standards-based and designed for enterprise and SMB environments, theVG200 series that supports existing traditional analog devices, and the 7900 Series that provides superior audio quality and advanced services, Cisco has been a leader in IP telephony for years. While they’ve excelled in advanced IP telephony hardware, Cisco has always relied on existing VoIP technology to make their devices work. Skype developed a technology superior to the standard telephone network. Using Skype, individuals can place voice and video calls over the Internet, calling others free of charge and connecting with land lines or mobile devices at considerably low rates.

Cisco’s interest in Skype is no surprise. Recently, the computer networking hardware company has begun to reach into software services, tablet computers, and video-conferencing technologies as well as digital video recorders with last year’s purchase of Pure Digital Technologies.

Tips on Ordering a Cisco AS5350XM Universal Gateway

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

You’re interested in ordering a Cisco AS5350XM Universal Gateway, but don’t know exactly what you need to meet your business’ requirements? We’re here to help…

We all know the Cisco AS5350XM Universal Gateways offers unprcedented capacity and flexibility. After all, it to deploys advanced voice, fax, and remote-access services to customers worldwide, proving time and again that it can handle the scale, reliability, and suite of services required to meet market demands.

With three slots that can take trunk  cards, high-density packet voice/fax digital signal processor (DSP) feature cards, and universal port DSP cards, the Cisco AS5350XM Universal Gateway is compatible with these trunk card options: 2CT1, 2CE1, 4CT1, 4CE1, 8CT1, 8CE1, and CT3. But which combination is right for you?
Before you start choosing your features, answer these questions:

1. Is an AC or DC power supply required?

2. Is a non-redundant or a redundant power supply preferred?

3. What is the ingress trunk type? Note that the platform supports CT1, CE1, and CT3 ingress trunks.

4. What cable or connector type is required to connect the trunks?  Specific cable types such as DB15, RJ-45, BNC, etc. may be required to connect the E1/T1 trunks to the Cisco AS5350XM Universal Gateway. The RJ-45 is sometimes referred to as RJ-48C.

5. What trunk signaling is used?

6. If T1 or E1 cables will be used for ingress, do you need the optional eight PRI breakout cable rack-mount bracket to organize cabling?

7. Which of the following kinds of calls will be terminated on the platform?

8. Which applications need to be supported: Packet voice and fax, or universal port (dial-up/remote access in combination with voice), or dial only?n>

Note that for voice and fax applications, it’s better to choose bundles or starter kit configurations that include high-density packet voice/fax feature cards and DSP modules.  For combined voice, fax, and remote access applications, choose bundles or starter kit configurations that include universal port DSP feature cards. For remote access apps, always choose bundles or starter kit configurations that include dial DSP feature cards.

Another tip:  before ordering through the manufacturer’s distribution chain, always look around for alternative Cisco providers that offer both warranties and discounts off the manufacturer price. Some of these companies are highly reputable and offer both refurbished and brand new options at a savings, and even warrant the product longer than Cisco will!  It can’t hurt to look around before you buy and it might just save you a lot of money in the long run.
