The WS-C6509-E is Cisco System's high-quality 9-slot chassis which offers enhancements that support the Catalyst 6700 series line cards. This chassis assists to increase the overall system power capacity over Ethernet port-density scalability. In line with the Cisco Catalyst 6500's tradition of superior investment protection, all existing switch fabrics, line cards, and supervisors are supported in the E-series chassis. The WS-C6509-E is compatible with the following Cisco IOS Software releases: 6.3.6 and later, 12.1(08)E and later, and 12.2(14)SX and later. The 9-slot chassis (including the WS-C6509-E) as well as the lower performing 6-slot chassis are designed to scale beyond 4000W power supply configurations. They will, in the future, support 6000W power supplies. Cisco lists the WS-C6509-E price at ,500 for a new component.
