The Cisco 2821 is an Integrated Services Router— a member of the Cisco 2800 Integrated Services Router Series designed to complement the Integrated Services Router Portfolio—is able to deliver multiple high-quality services simultaneously (at wire speed) up to multiple T1/E1/xDSL connections. The CISCO2821 offers embedded encryption acceleration as well as on the motherboard voice DSP slots. It also boasts intrusion prevention system IPS and firewall functions along with integrated call processing (optional) and voice mail support. This router is also equipped with reliable, high-density interfaces for a broad range of connectivity requirements.

The Cisco 2821 Integrated Services Router has dual integrated 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports, and supports over 90 existing and new modules along with the majority of existing AIMs, NMs, WICs, VICs, and VWICs. The four high-speed WAN Interface Card Slots serve to increase the density, and the increased modularity and performance enhances investment protection.
